POSITION: School Secretary I
Classification: Classified/Support Staff/Unlicensed
Terms of Employment: Full Time – 180 Days
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
This is a Classified position assigned to the Classified Salary Schedule.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under immediate supervision, performs routine clerical tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Types letters, memos, bulletins, narrative reports, and/or tables from rough drafts.
- Proofreads reports, letters, and/or other documents.
- Posts information to records or files.
- Records information on standard Elko County School District forms.
- Answers or asks questions of callers and visitors by phone or in person.
- Files and sorts correspondence, memos, and reports.
- Operates various office business machines.
- May perform media center, library, switchboard, or graphics responsibilities.
- Conforms to safety standards as prescribed.
- Performs other tasks related to the position as assigned.

Involves varied clerical work to provide support services to other clerical positions, teachers, supervisors, or administrators.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Training, and Experience:
- High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., GED, college, technical or trade school, foreign equivalency, etc.).
- One year of clerical experience; or,
Verified keyboarding/typing score of 35 words per minute net.

- Specific documented evidence of training and experience to satisfy qualifications.

Elko County School District facilities, schools, departments, and auxiliary sites.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Strength: Sedentary/Medium - Exert force to 50 lbs., occasionally; 10-25 lbs., frequently; up to 10 lbs., constantly; or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
Physical Demands: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, carrying, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Vision: Frequent near acuity; occasional far acuity. Vision to read printed materials, a VDT screen, and other monitoring devices.
Environmental Conditions: Climate-controlled office setting and outdoor temperatures ranging from mild to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods.
Hazards: Furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals and fumes (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment).
EXAMPLES OF EQUIPMENT/SUPPLIES USED TO PERFORM TASKS:
Various computers, printers, telephones, calculators, copy machines, fax machines, filing cabinets/equipment, etc.
